Today I want to share one of my favorite treasures that I inherited from my Mom,
this set of six vintage seashell bowls!
I love the soft PINK, yellow and turquoise borders on these bowls!
The gold rim is such an elegant touch.
The hand painted shells and corals are exquisite!
I don't think my Mom ever used these and I have never used them either!
A number of them also have splashes of Lavender.
The bowls are not very deep but would be perfect for the soup course.
They are approximately seven inches in diameter.
My Daddy bought these for my Mom at an auction many years ago. I don't know anything about these bowls but they do have this gold mark on the bottom.
There is also a teeny blue stamp on the bottom of each but they are impossible to read even with a magnifying glass. If anyone has any information about these
I would love to know!

Beautiful plates - love the vintage look! We lived in Charleston (during Hurricane Hugo) - such a beautiful place- I always enjoyed the downtown marketplace.

I certaining wish I could help you with the maker of your bowls, but I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I think the colors on the rims and the way they run together are just beautiful. You mother certainly gave you a treasure from the heart.
Happy Pink Saturday, Char
Nan, those bowls are just amazing. I wonder if back in the day they were used to serve a seafood dish..they had something specific for everything it seems. In any case they are certainly a treasure.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday..xo Tami

Nan, go toyour Barnes & Noble or antique mall that sells antique price guides ... there are several on 'marks' that will tell you the details you need to know.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there are tons of antique books in Japanese marks to refer to ...
These are fabulous.

Absolutely beautiful! I would say they were bought as blanks and painted by a very talented cottage artist. China painting was very popular from the late Victorian era to mid 1930s and these are really exceptional. Mostly you see flowers so these are especially nice! Thanks for sharing. Happy PS!

Those are very beautiful! How lucky that you have them. I'm thinking that "Antiques and Teacups" is right - they were probably hand-painted. What a wonderful set.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday!

ReplyDeleteI love them. What a treasure. Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern! It is gorgeous. Good luck with your research. I think you may find out who made those. I find that hunt so fun! I found some blue and white tea cups and the story behind them is amazing. I wish you luck and I know that Japanese symbol is going to find you some beautiful history of these plates and bowls. Hugs Anne
ReplyDeleteNan, I found these two links with similar art on some plates. They are not the exact thing but maybe someone on this website could tell you more.

Hi Nan, Love the way you combine scriptures and pictures..you bless so many lives with words and pictures. Keep up the good work. Bless you, Vonda
ReplyDeleteThey are Limoges made in France at the turn of the century. I have a larger seashell bowl. Mine was made in 1896.
