Let's get this party started!
Welcome to Where Bloggers Create III and to my humble studio!
Thank you to the uber talented Karen at My Desert Cottage for hosting Where Bloggers Create again this year!
I participated last year and since I've made a number of changes to my studio, I decided to participate again this year, besides, it provided the motivation to get my room cleaned up! Let me start first with this little sketch of my studio to help you visualize the layout.
My studio was my daughters' bedroom before they left for college. It's not a huge room, it measures 10' x 14' but it suits my needs just fine. One of the reasons I picked this room was for the amount of light that comes in through the windows. But the main reason was for the view out one of the windows,
I have a perfect view of the pond when I am sitting at my large table or at my easel.
As you come through the main door, immediately to the left
is my vintage red shelf.
This shelf holds my vintage children's books, magazines, vintage and reproduction toys and other things dear to me. My drafting table sits right beside this shelf and is where I do my technical drawing.
I also set my laptop on this table.
Along the adjacent wall to my drafting table, is paper storage central! The bins on the shelves contain 12x12 scrapbook paper and the bins on the floor contain 8-1/2 x 11 scrapbook paper and my art papers. The turquoise and yellow bins on the top shelf hold rolls of crape paper, feather boas and rolls of all types of trim. The small jars below hold vials of glitter. The giant pencil was once a clothes tree for my girls. I added lots of hooks to it and hung the little red pails on the hooks to hold my colored pencils.
Right behind the giant pencil, I mounted a curtain rod to the wall to hold a large roll of drafting paper. Just past this roll of paper is a former VCR tape rack that now holds Mason jars filled with ribbon and just past that is my easel. The small white stand holds my painting supplies.
My large project table is just two - 2' x 4' folding tables with a large sheet of white mason board on top. The mason board is very inexpensive and Lowes will cut it to whatever size you need. My little red vintage sewing cabinet sits at the end and the cabinet in the corner holds a TV, stereo/DVD player and behind the curtain, more crafting supplies and tools.
The final wall contains two more Iris carts that hold more supplies, little drawers for my Copic markers and a large bulletin board. I bought the double sided, multi pocket Jewelry holder at Stein Mart and it is perfect for holding punches.
One little thing that I'm kind of anal about, everything, and I mean everything, has to be arranged in ROYGBIV order:
(red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet),
paper, pencils, markers, ribbon and paint, all in order!
Ribbon is wound on craft sticks and placed into Jars by color.
Colored pencils arranged by colors in their own little pail!
A little shelf with lots of PINK goodness and pocket tags from a swap.
I still need to de-clutter the closet and Iris carts and get rid of a lot of junk that has accumulated so it's not so hard to find the things I "actually" use. I also need to hang some pictures on the walls in the empty spots.
So that's my tour of my little studio, I hoped you enjoyed it and found a little inspiration for your studio too!
I'll also be linking this to PINK Saturday at How Sweet the Sound.
Oh Nan..I've had a delightful time looking around your studio. I liked the floorplan..helped my feeble brain get a good picture of the layout. Everything is so well organized and that's not anal, just smart. You can definitely someone with ADD lives in my room! Your repurposed VCR shelf was a clever idea. I'm chuckling at everyone's Iris bins...Iris should go on this tour.
ReplyDeleteYour space is cheery and welcoming and I was happy to be invited in. Now put your feet up and enjoy the compliments!
Great job!

To. Die. For. Love the pops of red! What an inspiring space. Thank you for the simple yet BRILLIANT idea of putting up a curtain rod for your drafting paper! I hate pulling out that cumbersome roll when it's time to create a new pattern. I will be putting that idea to use...someday in my dream studio. Happy PS

I'm impressed by that blueprint! And then audible gasps at the RED! Red is so neglected in homes (I say as I sit on my red couch!).
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll have time to visit my creative spaces!
I'm loving your room! I love the little red sewing table! Oh - I see such great ideas! I just saw one of the VHS shelves at a yard sale today - it never entered my mind it could work. I love how you painted the lids of canning jars! I am thrifty - so I like your thrifty ideas! I see the APRONS from the Apron Swap, too! Yeah!

Oh Nan! I've loved looking around. What an amazing space you have designed for yourself. I'm using my daughter's old room for my studio. It's the same room in the Romantic Homes Magazine from a few years ago although you'd never know it now.

What a great colourful studio! I love your giant pencil. Thanks for the tour!
ReplyDeleteGreat organization.... and I think I've finally met someone with as many colored pencils as I have.... mine aren't color coded in their own little buckets though! :-)
ReplyDeleteWonderful job..
Warm blessings,
Spencer
Sweet space, Nan! I'll bet you feel close to them while you work in their old room. I love all the different storage pieces you've got. I've been eyeing those drawers for scrapbook paper. I'm thinking they might be a good idea. My anal organization has me keeping like colors with like colors and then things like "baby" separate from regular, which can make for a lot of scrapbook paper! I think you've made the most of your space and thank you for sharing it with us!
ReplyDeleteHi I always see your comments over at Jills (BucksCountyFolkArt). I love your pretty and bright space. Your little pocket tags from your swap look so cute hanging there. Thanks fro sharing!! XO Fran.
ReplyDeleteOH! I also like my stuff arranged in ROYGBIV order...so I especially love your colored pencil tree.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome and colorful world you have out there! Nice floor plan!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you organize everything. Thanks for sharing! Hope you'll have a chance to peek into my play room!

ReplyDeleteI've sure picked up some great tips from visiting your studio! Thanks for visiting Thistle Cove Farm, it let me back to YOU! Come back anytime; I'm not in Budapest but headed for Serbia tomorrow. (south)Westward HO!
ReplyDeleteYour space is so happy and bright, I like the feeling of it and I bet its even nicer to in there creating away. And you have a lot of great storage containers and jars. It was great fun looing through your blog/creative space.

ReplyDeleteOh what a sweet creative space you have!! I am so wanting to make me a work space-right now it is all stuffed in the closet which makes creativity a bit hard!
ReplyDeleteI love the red's in your room, so cheerful. I also love your pencil holder it is so cute!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your studio. It's just beautiful! The red sewing cabinet is beautiful,.. oh everything is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteDon't fret about your color order. I'm also very OCD about having things in order in my craft space. It may not look it right now, but I have to have order or I can't create.
Thanks for sharing.
Debbie
Such a beautiful view out your window. Inspiration for sure.
