I love vintage pottery, especially the brands produced in Ohio. Roseville, Weller and Hull are some of my favorites. This pair of Vintage, Yellow vases were a gift from my parents and I've had them for at least twenty years.
The vases were known as Cornucopias. I've always wondered just exactly how they arranged flowers in them because of the angle of the throat. I really should experiment and see for myself.
This pattern is known as Bittersweet. Maybe I'll see if I can find some branches of real Bittersweet and arrange them in the vases and incorporate them into my Fall decorating! Doing a little research, I discovered the Bittersweet pattern was also manufactured in a pretty Minty Green and Rose, which was actually a combination of blue and pink.
Here is a shot of the bottom of the vase with the Roseville mark and serial number. I'm guessing the black marks identified the craftsman who actually painted the vases.
I also wanted to share these really cool arrangements I spotted yesterday in a gift shop.
I think these would be so easy to make! They are just bundles of sticks wrapped in ribbon and adorned with little pinecones, leaves and flowers. They were probably about 2-1/2' to 3' tall and had a hefty price of $65!

Those vases are most unusual Nan. I've never seen any like them. I have a Weller apple vase and jardiniere that were my MIL's. Aren't we lucky to have cherished items passed down to us by those we love?
ReplyDeleteBack to pinning. BTW-I love all of the houses you pin...are you preparing to build or just dreaming like I do?

My mum has a vase like that, in green. I don't think I've ever seen flowers in it - perhaps she finds the shape awkward too.
ReplyDeleteI always linger over the display cases of Ohio pottery at the antique malls. What a treasure to own these two beautiful vases. I hope you are enjoying this beautiful Indian Summer where you are. Blessings, Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure you have there! I love yellows that are warm and buttery...
ReplyDeleteYour vases are stunning!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful vases! I love them!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful! I can envision gladiolas in them!
ReplyDeleteAnd that bottom arrangement is really interesting. Are you going to attempt to make something similar? I'd love to see a tutorial on that!
Thanks for a lovely link for Alphabe-Thursday's letter "Y".
