A Happy Vintage New Year!

Happy, Happy New Year Everyone!

I know, I know, I'm about a week and a half late but that's how my life seems to be going these days. In fact, before I go any farther, I have to say a HUGE congratulations to my amazing, beautiful daughter Rachel who graduated from The Ohio State University in December!

She is such a smartie, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Molecular Plant Cell Biology with a minor in Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology. I can barely say it! Now we're keeping our fingers crossed that she can find a grown-up job and maybe even one that will pay for her to get her Masters.

Now back to the Happy New Year! Do you have any goals or aspirations for the New Year? When I reflect back on the two words I chose for last year "DO" and "Believe", I have to admit, I did not do a very good job of following through. In fact, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give myself a 3 for "DO" and about a 5 for "Believe"!

I think the most positive step I took towards believing in MY art, was that I started attending a Bible Study group at Church, just for artists. It has been the most amazing experience and I can't wait for it to resume after the Holiday break! We are reading a book titled "The Creative Call" and it is filled with lots of hands on exercises.

It is such a valuable experience to share with other artists, your fears, your hopes, disappointments and receive words of encouragement each week and most importantly, to reaffirm that God wants you to use your talents and to share in his creation!
So.... my goals for this year are to have Faith, that God has a plan for my art and to free myself from self doubt and distractions. Gee, I guess my two words from last year, "DO" and "Beleive" work for this year too!

So Happy Belated New Year everyone! Please enjoy these vintage New Years Images and let me know what your plans are for the New Year!

  1. Happy New Year!
I am excited to see where your Bible Study and Art will move you this year!
I heard just this morning some one say Jesus said "come" to his diciples, not sit there and wait for me, but "come". so that is my goal this year, to come closer to Jesus, by getting up and going where He leads.
    I wish you a GREAT 2012!

  2. Congrats on your daughter's graduation from college!
That sure is a mouthful and I hope she can find a wonderful job!
I love the idea of having a creative study group. I have never heard of anything like that before. I hope you continue to grow there!

  3. Happy New Year Nan! Your daughter certainly is beautiful and must be smart.. I can not imagine the kind of work she will be doing. but it seems like it would be fascinating!
and a bible study for artists sounds great too. you must go to a large church where there are a good amount of artists!
I'm home sick today with a horrible cold. but cant stay down.. its just not in me! so I'm puttering at taking christmas down and resting in between bins.
    have a great day!

  4. Congratulations to your daughter (and to you and your husband,too...support is very important in any success)and the best of luck in her pursuits. Do you still have family in Ohio? You know that you almost have to pass through Pittsburgh to get there..if you're driving that is!
I have a word for this year...it's Celebrate! I've given up on lofty goals and disappointed myself over the years with "focus", "manage" and "simplify" (that one was almost laughable!) so CELEBRATE it is! I will celebrate every monent, every day, every week, every month and then start over again.
You do have a gift for art...I hope you are able to DO more this year and share with us!
Here's to art, health and "pinning" in the New Year!

  5. Visiting from Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday. I love your playlist, congratulations to your daughter. I like the words "do" and "believe". Faith is the key. xo

  21. Wow, your daughter is brilliant. Congratulations to you all and Happy Vintage New Year! I like the way you chose words to live by in 2011 and will continue with them in 2012. I also have the book "Creative Calling" but there is no one here to do the study with. I'm still not sure I believe I'm an artist in that sense, anyway, but I really like the book. Great post!
